Strataca is an adventure like no other, the museum is 650 feet underground and run by tour times.
The general tour – The Salt Blast Pass takes about 2.5 hours.
The combo tour – The Salt Blast Pass + Salt Safari takes about 3-3.5 hours.
Tours after 2pm have limited time in the museum, as we close at 5pm.
We suggest taking an earlier tour time to get the full experience!
Reservations recommended! While walk-ins are welcome, they are not always guaranteed.

WHAT'S INCLUDED
OUR MAIN TOUR – A full 2.5 hour, self guided, self paced tour, in the Salt Mines of Hutchinson that includes the Underground Museum Galleries, 30 minute Dark Ride & 15 minute Train Ride.

WHAT'S INCLUDED
A combination of the Salt Blast Pass (our main 2.5 hour tour), plus a guided 1 hour Salt Safari Shuttle, where you’ll venture further into the raw mine experiencing a thrilling subterranean quest unlike anything you’ve seen before!
3.5+ hour tour that includes the Underground Museum Galleries, 30 Minute Dark Ride, 15 minute Train Ride, 1 hour Salt Safari Shuttle.

The Lantern Tour
3 Hour Adventure

Discover the underground like never before on our Lantern Tour, one of Strataca’s most immersive and historic adventures. Your journey begins with a docent-guided walk through our underground museum galleries, where you’ll learn the story of the Hutchinson Salt Company and the miners who worked 650 feet below Kansas.
Then, lantern in hand, you’ll set out on a one-hour, one-mile interpretive hike along the abandoned railbeds used by miners in the 1950s. As your lantern lights the path, you’ll explore seldom-seen areas of the mine and gain a deeper understanding of how miners lived, worked, and transported salt through the underground rail system.
Perfect for history enthusiasts, adventure seekers, and anyone looking for a unique underground experience, the Lantern Tour offers an authentic look at life in the mine—told where it actually happened.

ASTC PASSPORT PROGRAM
Strataca is a proud member of the Association of Science and Technology Centers Passport Program.
If you are a member of a science center or museum participating in the ASTC Passport Program, you are eligible for benefits such as free general admission when you travel outside of your local area. Exclusions apply and benefits vary.
Participating reciprocal guests visiting Strataca receive complimentary admission to the underground museum galleries, this does not include the train ride, dark ride, salt safari, or additional tours.
***Rides can be purchased for an additional fee.
The science center or museum you are visiting is not located within 90 miles of either your home residence and the science center or museum that you belong to.
Reciprocal guests visiting Strataca must show proof of residency and their member card at check-in.
